VIDEO: 84-year-old beaten by nurse at upmarket care home

When Hope Shepherd’s family moved her into an upmarket care home in East London, they thought she would be cared for.

However, when Shepherd’s daughter, Bernice Robertson, began noticing bruising, and an unexplained broken arm, she took matters into her own hands. She set up a hidden camera in her mother’s room, and what she caught on camera shocked her to the core.
In the video below, a nurse is seen giving a brutal beating to Hope Shepherd – slapping, punching and kicking her. The footage was filmed in late February this year at the facility which costs up to R14,000 per month.
The 84-year-old woman is suffering from cancer and can’t speak or write, so she had no way of communicating what was happening to her.
Charge of assault
Robertson immediately reported nurse Ncediswa Mkenkcele (40) to the police station, laying a charge of assault. When confronted by employers at the Lily Kirchmann Complex, Mkenkcele promptly resigned.
She was arrested on March 23 and appeared in court on 5 May and was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. She was not asked to plead and was released on warning. The case was postponed until June 5 for further investigation.
